Summit Prep 2024-25

What is Summit Prep?

Summit Prep is an exceptional program specifically tailored to meet the needs of middle school and high school players (Grades 6-12) affiliated with Summit Youth Hockey. This innovative program provides players with the unique opportunity to enhance their hockey skills through two on-ice sessions held on Tuesdays and Thursdays and off-ice workouts and classroom sessions scheduled for Mondays and Wednesdays. Interested players must complete an application to be considered for participation in this program.

Players must fill out the SYH Summit Prep Application and the Summit Middle School/Summit High School Application to be considered for this program


6th graders attending Summit Middle School must obtain approval from the school before participating in Summit Prep. Please contact Ross Morgan at Summit Middle School to receive approval. You can email him at ross.morgan@summitk12.org.

Summit Prep Weekly Schedule(August 26-March 28)

We will follow the school calendar; we will not have Summit Prep if the kids do not have school.

Parents will be responsible for the Transportation of their athletes.


Mondays (Middle School Only)

  • School Release Times
  • Summit Middle School: 1:05 PM
  • Summit High School will be in School for the Full Day
  • Summit Middle School Students will be required to report to the Breckenridge Recreation Center or Stephen C. West Ice Arena(Working on Schedule) at 2 PM for Classroom and Off-Ice Activities.
  • Pick Up Time will be 4 PM


Tuesdays (Middle School and High School)

  • School Release Times
  • Summit Middle School: 12:45 PM
  • Summit High School: 12:42 PM
  • On Ice Day Schedule
  • 1 PM - Arrive at the rink
  • 1:30-2:45 PM - On Ice
  • 2:45-3:45 PM - Classroom/Dryland
  • 3:45-4:30 PM - Study Hall


Wednesdays (Middle School Only)

  • School Release Times
  • Summit Middle School: 11:36 AM
  • Summit High School will be in School for the Full Day
  • Summit Middle School Students will be required to report to the Breckenridge Recreation Center or Stephen C. West Ice Arena(Working on Schedule) at 1PM for Classroom and Off-Ice Activities.
  • Pick Up Time will be 3 PM


Thursdays (Middle School and High School)

  • Parents will be responsible for their players on this day. Summit Youth Hockey will have NO PROGRAMMING THIS DAY

Frequently Asked Questions

What quarters will they need to take online classes?

  • Students will need to sign up for online classes for 1-3 Quarters

What are the early release days?

  • Middle School - Monday through Friday
  • High School - Tuesday and Thursday

Who provides transportation to the rink?

  • Parents will be responsible for transporting their player to the rink and recreation center

Can they store gear at the rink?

  • Yes

Will Summit Prep follow the school calendar year with breaks/closures?

  • Yes

Additional costs that may arise?

  • Parents will be responsible for signing up their player for Online Classes through the schools.

If a student fails below grade average how will that effect Summit Prep?

  • Summit Prep will follow the same standards as the schools. Students must maintain a 2.5 in order to participate in Summit Prep

Can you cancel mid-season if the program is not working for your child?

  • Yes but there is no refund policy.

What classes do students need to take on-line?

  • 6th Grade - 2 Core Classes
  • 7th Grade - 2 Core Classes
  • 8th Grade - 2 Essential Classes
  • High Schoolers - Players will miss 4th Period

Coach to player ratio?

  • We will have at least 3 coaches on the ice with the players at all times. Players will be broken up into groups based on skill level.

How does study hall work? Does the child have to attend?

  • Study halls will be ran by our Academic Advisory. Players will be required to attend these sessions.

Will all athletes practice at the same time?

  • Yes, but they may be split up between ice, dryland and classroom

When does the school portion need to be submitted to school?

  • August 1st


Summit Prep 24/25

Summit Prep is an academy program that gives Summit County Middle and High School hockey players an option to increase the tempo of their hockey skills development, facilitated through an academic athlete program twice a week for 24 weeks.

Summit Prep is available to players in grades 6th - 12th.
